The Ivory Boutique Hotel is Opening Soon in Koreatown
The Ivory Hotel Opens in Koreatown, Offering a Unique Boutique Experience
In the heart of Koreatown, The Ivory Hotel has officially opened its doors, providing a much-needed sanctuary in one of Los Angeles’ most vibrant neighborhoods. This 48-room boutique hotel stands out for its thoughtful design and commitment to creating a personal guest experience.
Tucked along South Mariposa Avenue, The Ivory encapsulates a philosophy of "home, but better," as envisioned by developer Rachel Gerstein. Unlike many hotels that can feel impersonal, The Ivory blends the warmth of residential living with a sophisticated sense of design.
“Koreatown is one of the most dynamic, layered neighborhoods in Los Angeles,” Gerstein remarked. “Its vibrancy is what first drew me here, but it also made clear what felt missing: a place to pause. I’ve always been inspired by spaces that offer both connection and retreat, and Koreatown felt like the ideal setting to introduce something more intimate and restorative without ever losing touch with the neighborhood’s energy and character.”
Gerstein emphasized the discovery aspect of Koreatown, highlighting its range of food options from late-night meals to artisanal Korean pastries and unique tea programs, all within a short stroll. “That depth and richness, the way so many experiences exist side by side, creates a feeling that’s entirely its own and hard to replicate anywhere else in Los Angeles.”
Inside The Ivory, guests are greeted by a calming atmosphere featuring oak herringbone floors and low, upholstered beds, all adorned in a palette of layered neutrals. Natural light streams through sheer drapes, contributing to a serene ambiance. Common areas, including a lobby with curved terracotta seating and a coastal mural, enhance this inviting environment.
The simple yet thoughtful touches, such as morning bread service and evening cookies, reflect Gerstein’s vision of comfort. “The daily rituals stand out most to me,” she noted. “There’s something very special about the simplicity of a morning pastry or an evening reset—it reflects the kind of experience I’m always seeking when I travel.”
The hotel experience extends beyond accommodations, as The Ivory integrates food, art, and programming into its offerings. The menu juxtaposes sophisticated items like Kaluga caviar with relaxed plates such as pâté and bruschetta, complemented by a carefully curated wine list featuring California producers.
Art plays a pivotal role in the hotel, with works from local artists incorporated throughout the space. One notable piece, Rob Wynne’s installation Daydream, captures and reflects light, enlivening the hotel’s serene design. Gerstein explained, “Art felt essential from the beginning because I’ve always believed that great hospitality should connect people not just to a place but to its creative community.”
Beyond art, The Ivory will host panels, performances, and rotating exhibitions, further engaging both guests and locals.
The hotel creates a balance with its serene environment and the bustling rhythm of Koreatown. Guests can easily transition from the lively neighborhood to the calm of their rooms, which promote relaxation and retreat.
Amenities include a courtyard, pool, rooftop deck, and a 24-hour fitness center. Guests can choose between digital or traditional check-in, tailoring their arrival experience to their preferences.
Located at 457 S. Mariposa Avenue, The Ivory is now open, with room rates starting around $375 per night.
