Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma to Highlight SXSW London as Final Screen Program Additions Are Announced
Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ to Close SXSW London
Jane Schoenbrun’s film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, featuring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, is set to conclude the Screen Festival segment of SXSW London in June. The film will debut fresh off its world premiere as the opening feature in the Un Certain Regard category at the Cannes Film Festival, ahead of its scheduled release by Mubi in August across the U.S., UK, and Ireland.
In this Plan B and Mubi co-production, Einbinder plays a filmmaker who becomes fixated on casting the original "final girl" from a cult slasher film, a role portrayed by Anderson. This marks Schoenbrun’s third feature, following her previous works We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow.
“Jane Schoenbrun has been building one of the most fascinating bodies of work in cinema today,” commented Screen Festival Head Anna Bogutskaya. “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma builds on every touchpoint of Schoenbrun’s work, exploring horror, fandom, memory, and identity, and pushes it further. Every scene between Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson was so charged I was afraid the screen might catch fire.”
In addition to Schoenbrun’s film, the Screen Program will feature the world premiere of Brazilian director Bruno Safadi’s Globo-produced series Playoffs, with star Cauã Reymond making a red carpet appearance at London’s Barbican Centre.
Further highlights from the program include:
- Greek director Thanasis Neofotistos’s genre-defying debut feature, The Boy With Light-Blue Eyes.
- Sam McConnell’s Test, which explores the life of an amateur bodybuilder in rural Ohio grappling with familial dysfunction, substance abuse, and his emerging sexuality.
- Chris Atkins’ documentary James – Getting Away With It, chronicling the ascent of the ‘Sit Down’ hitmakers from the Manchester music scene of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
A special screening will also showcase The Cure Meets The Man Who Laughs, a re-scored version of the 1928 silent classic featuring music from The Cure.
Additionally, UK premieres will take place for Olivia Wilde’s The Invite, starring alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz, as well as Sofia Coppola’s documentary Marc by Sofia, focusing on her longtime friend and collaborator, Marc Jacobs.
SXSW London is scheduled to run from June 1 to 6.
