Tate McRae Shares Her Thoughts on the Kid Laroi Breakup
Tate McRae Opens Up About Breakup with Kid Laroi
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Tate McRae discussed her breakup with Kid Laroi and the emotional challenges surrounding the release of her new song "TIT FOR TAT." The pop star described the experience as "really scary and overwhelming," revealing her vulnerability in sharing personal aspects of her life through music.
McRae’s candid remarks came on the heels of their split, which occurred in July after approximately a year and a half of dating. "It was really scary and overwhelming" she emphasized, marking a significant period for her as she navigates both personal and professional realms. The release of "TIT FOR TAT" represents a pivotal moment in her career, as she channels her experiences into art.
The song serves as a direct response to Laroi’s track "A COLD PLAY," which he released shortly after their breakup. In his song, Laroi reflects, "Who was I to think that I could fix you, baby? Who would I be if I didn’t miss you, baby?” McRae’s reply in "TIT FOR TAT" is equally pointed: “Fix your fucking self / Kiss my ass for that.”
Despite the emotionally charged nature of her music, McRae expressed some reservations about sharing personal details. “No one knows the full story of anything, ever,” she pointed out, acknowledging the complexities of public perception. “I also hate people painting a situation that’s worse than it is,” she added.
Reflecting on the impact of public scrutiny, McRae said, “What I’ve had to realize is that he’s going to write songs and I’m going to write songs, and that’s our way of expressing ourselves. That’s our art, that’s our job. And once it’s out there, it’s not mine anymore.”
As she continues to share her story through her music, McRae demonstrates a commitment to authenticity, even as she navigates the challenges of fame and personal relationships.
