Sydney Sweeney recently offered valuable guidance for young actors hoping to succeed in Hollywood. During an exclusive interview at the premiere of her new film, The Housemaid, in New York City, Sweeney emphasized the importance of passion in the industry.
“Honestly, do it as long as you love it,” the 28-year-old actress stated. She acknowledged the challenges of the profession, saying, “You gotta love it a lot, because it’s really hard, and you’re going to be told ‘no’ more than you’re gonna be told ‘yes.’
Adding further insight, Sweeney reflected, “You have to deal with rejection, and it’s a lot. So if you love it to your core, then none of that matters because … you’re getting to do what you love.”

Sweeney’s acting career began in 2009, with early credits in prominent television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Pretty Little Liars. She gained widespread recognition in the late 2010s through significant roles in productions like The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Her breakout role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria further solidified her status in the industry.
More recently, Sweeney has appeared in The White Lotus, Immaculate, Anyone but You, Madame Web, and Christy. She has also taken on production roles in various projects, including The Housemaid.
In her latest project, an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s psychological thriller, Sweeney plays a young woman who accepts a position as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, portrayed by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.

Sweeney admitted that her favorite aspect of pursuing her career in Hollywood is auditioning. “I loved auditioning because I was getting to try out all these different characters,” she said. Reaffirming her earlier message for aspiring actors, she added, “So I think if you’re a child actor and you wanna do it, you just gotta make sure you love it.”
The Housemaid is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 19.
