Timothée Chalamet, Denis Villeneuve, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa Share Excitement for ‘Dune: Part Three’ as Paul Atreides Evolves into a Dynamic New Role
Fremen and Stars Unite for a First Look at Dune: Part Three at CinemaCon
In an energetic display, the cast and crew of Dune: Part Three made a memorable appearance at CinemaCon on Tuesday night. Among those present were stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa, alongside director Denis Villeneuve. The event featured an exclusive seven-minute preview of the forthcoming film, igniting excitement among fans.
The preview opens with Fremen ships gliding through ominous, gray skies as they land on a rain-drenched planet. The characters chant "God be with us" before charging into battle, only to face a barrage of laserfire that devastates their ranks.
Following this gripping introduction, the audience was treated to an extended look at the film. A poignant moment reveals Momoa’s character, Duncan Idaho, telling Chalamet’s Paul Atreides that he is "way beyond redemption" after becoming a "destroyer of worlds."
Before the footage was shown, Villeneuve took to the stage flanked by a Fremen army, with some members suspended by wires. In a lighthearted moment, he referred to them as his “entourage” and shared his vision of crafting each Dune film as a unique cinematic experience.
The director described the upcoming installment as a "thriller—action-packed, more intense and definitely more emotional." He also provided context for the narrative, revealing that the story takes place 17 years later in a "very different world," where Atreides must confront the dire consequences of his choices.
Villeneuve emphasized that the film tells "a redemption story," with the central theme revolving around the complex love story between Chani and Paul, which is "more of a broken love story" this time around.
Chalamet commented on Paul’s character arc, stating he has "become his worst vision" and is tangled in the struggle to protect his loved ones while evolving into "the all-powerful dark emperor of the universe."
Zendaya noted the toll the intervening years have taken on the characters, describing the period as "really difficult, challenging, ungentle and unkind." Yet, she insisted there remains "so much left still to fight for." She also pointed out that Chani is at "a very different place in her life" where her youthful perspective has significantly shifted.
Though Momoa’s character died in Dune: Part One, he will return in this installment thanks to Ghola technology.
Reflecting on the emotional journey, Villeneuve shared that saying farewell to Paul and Chani in the desert felt like parting from family, as the project has occupied nearly a decade of their lives.
As the presentation concluded, Chalamet affectionately hailed Villeneuve as "the one … the real Paul Atreides."
Continuing Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novels, Dune: Part Three is set for release on December 18.
