Susan Lucci Discusses Upcoming Film on Podcast
Susan Lucci recently provided insights into her new project, Outcome, during an appearance on the Soapy podcast, hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart. Lucci revealed that she will star alongside Jonah Hill and Keanu Reeves in the film, which Hill wrote and directed.
The 78-year-old actress recounted her initial reaction upon receiving the script, which Hill had expressly tailored for her. “I was told I was receiving this script from Jonah Hill for his movie, and it’s for Apple Plus. And my name was watermarked, ‘Susan Lucci’ was watermarked. It was an offer. And I read this script, and the part, it’s not a big part, but it’s pretty sizable, the scene, and very powerful," she said.
Lucci explained that while she found the role compelling, it also pushed her to confront emotional challenges. “I remember thinking, ‘This is really something, and this is challenging.’ But it was gonna require me to go to a place I thought I was still too raw to go to,” she reflected.
Initially, Lucci hesitated to accept the role, believing that it might not be suitable for her at this point in her life. “I thought, ‘This is probably just not good for me to do… It’s good for my career to do, but I know as a human being, it’s probably not good," she admitted.
However, her perspective shifted when she engaged with Hill directly. “Jonah Hill called me. He really did have me in mind for this part… he was so lovely and wonderful to talk to, and I could tell he was really invested in this,” she recalled. By the end of their conversation, Lucci felt a sense of cathartic gratitude for the opportunity and decided to embrace the challenge.
Lucci’s work in Outcome also grants her the chance to collaborate with Keanu Reeves, whom she praised, stating, "Wow. A real actor. I mean, we did about four passes at it, just between ourselves. And he said, ‘God, I wish we were doing this on Broadway.’ And I said, ‘So do I,’ because you keep finding things."
In reflecting on her journey with this project, Lucci expressed excitement at the opportunity to tackle a significant role, showcasing her enduring capability and passion for her craft.
