Goodfellas and Mediawan Team Up for Sports Label Round 12, Featuring Marcel Rasquin’s ‘Breakaway’ and a Biopic on Marta Vieira Da Silva
Goodfellas and Mediawan Sport Launch New Joint Venture: Round 12
In a significant move within the film and television industry, Goodfellas and Mediawan Sport have announced the establishment of Round 12, a dedicated label for co-producing and marketing both fiction and documentary content focused on sports.
Named after the decisive final round of a boxing match, Round 12 embodies the shared enthusiasm for sports of Goodfellas President Vincent Maraval, sales executive Antoine Guilhem, and Éric Hannezo from Mediawan Sport.
The new partnership arose from a mutual recognition of a gap in the market for specialized sports narratives. Maraval and Hannezo aim to position Round 12 as a premier reference point for sports content among distributors and platforms globally.
Goodfellas has a history of supporting acclaimed sports-related films, including Emir Kusturica’s Maradona, James Toback’s Tyson, and Gabe Polsky’s Red Army, all of which were showcased at the Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Mediawan Sport, led by Hannezo, brings extensive expertise in sports programming, highlighted by productions such as Le K Benzema, Anelka: Misunderstood, Le Stade, Au Micro, and the Ligue 1+ series.
Maraval and Hannezo are set to present Round 12 during the Sport, Literature and Cinema Festival in Lyon this week. The label plans to unveil an expanded slate at the European Film Market (EFM), featuring two soccer fiction films and eight documentaries.
Among the new projects is Breakaway, a thriller directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Marcel Rasquin. The film follows a young man drawn into the perilous world of underground soccer to settle his older brother’s gang-related debts. Rasquin has previously gained recognition for his award-winning works Hermano and Simón, and casting for Breakaway is currently underway.
The second fiction project, Marta, directed by Andrucha Waddington, is based on the true story of Marta Vieira da Silva, a six-time FIFA World Player of the Year widely regarded as the greatest female football player. Brazilian actress Alice Carvalho will portray the title character. Waddington’s past credits include the Cannes-acclaimed Me You Them and various Netflix biopics.
Round 12 also has an exciting lineup of documentaries, such as Ferrari: Fury & The Monster, directed by Steve Hoover, which chronicles the influential engineer Mauro Forghieri’s relationship with Enzo Ferrari. This film will be released in Italy on 200 screens in the first quarter of 2026.
Other documentary titles include Ladies Please Don’t Touch the Stage, which chronicles the first women’s Muay Thai bout at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, and The Lost Dream Team, which details Yugoslavia’s last national basketball team’s triumph at the 1991 FIBA EuroBasket.
With acquisitions to be managed by teams from both Goodfellas and Mediawan Sport, Round 12 is set to become a leading force in sports storytelling.
