Southern Section Softball Playoffs: Thursday Results
In the first round of the Southern Section Softball Playoffs held on Thursday, several notable games were contested across various divisions.
In Division 1, La Habra narrowly defeated Los Altos with a score of 3-2. Westlake showcased a strong performance, edging out Paraclete 10-9. La Mirada also claimed victory over Los Alamitos, winning 4-2. Garden Grove Pacifica dominated Glendora, finishing 15-4, while JSerra secured a close win against Yucaipa, 3-2. Oaks Christian triumphed over Chaminade, winning decisively 8-1, and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame bested Anaheim Canyon, finishing 6-3.
Moving to Division 2, Bonita overwhelmed Sierra Canyon with a score of 9-1, and Ganesha shut out Torrance, finishing 7-0. Warren followed suit, defeating Thousand Oaks 8-1. Other notable results included Whittier Christian’s 10-2 win over Western Christian, Simi Valley’s 3-1 victory against Alta Loma, and St. Paul’s impressive 20-1 rout of Eastvale Roosevelt. Lakewood St. Joseph, Moorpark, and Temescal Canyon also emerged victorious in their respective matchups.
In Division 3, Great Oak defeated West Torrance 5-2, while Riverside Prep edged out Quartz Hill 2-1. La Salle demonstrated its offensive power, trouncing Grand Terrace 21-5, and Villa Park won against Elsinore, 5-3.
Division 4 saw St. Bonaventure triumph over Valencia, 11-4, while Harvard-Westlake also had an impressive win, defeating Lakewood 11-8. Oxnard stifled Pasadena Poly in a 14-0 rout, and Mission Viejo defeated La Canada 5-1.
In Division 5, Santa Clara conquered Jurupa Hills 6-3, while Viewpoint claimed victory over Burbank Providence, finishing 9-4.
Division 6 featured notable performances as well, with Irvine winning 6-4 against Vasquez and Heritage shutting out Palm Desert 13-0. An impressive result came from Granite Hills, which defeated Big Bear 32-12.
In Division 7, Ramona Convent won decisively against Riverside Bethel Christian, 13-3, and Victor Valley emerged victorious over Tustin, winning 7-3.
Division 8 saw numerous high-scoring games, with ACE crushing Public Safety Academy 26-1. San Bernardino also recorded a strong performance, defeating Channel Islands 17-9. The action culminated with Pomona Catholic’s commanding 19-6 win over Gabrielino.
The schedule for Friday’s first-round matches is set, featuring several exciting matchups across various divisions. Notably, Division 1 will see Valley View pitted against Murrieta Mesa among other contests.
The playoffs continue with subsequent rounds scheduled, including the second round on May 16 and finals from May 28 to 30 at Bill Barber Memorial Park in Irvine.
