UCLA’s Jordan Chiles Shines with Perfect Score in Win Over Michigan
UCLA senior Jordan Chiles delivered an impressive performance on the floor exercise, achieving a perfect score of 10. This marks her fourth consecutive perfect score and fifth of the season. The standout moment came during a matchup against No. 9 Michigan at Pauley Pavilion, where Chiles received accolades for her energetic routine set to a medley of hits by renowned artists Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, and Tina Turner. Her efforts not only electrified the Valentine’s Day crowd but also contributed to No. 4 UCLA’s victory, with a final score of 197.725 to 196.975.

The Bruins entered the meet with a strong average team score of 197.404 and showcased an impressive performance against the Wolverines, who led after the first rotation. UCLA opened with the vault, where Tiana Sumanasekera tied her career-best score with a 9.9, and contributions came from Katelyn Rosen (9.875), Chiles (9.825), Ashlee Sullivan (9.850), Riley Jenkins (9.775), and Madisyn Anyimi (9.750). After this first rotation, Michigan held a slight edge, leading 49.325 to 49.225.
UCLA rebounded on the bars, taking a 98.725-98.250 lead. Notably, Nola Matthews, Chiles, and Sullivan all achieved remarkable scores of 9.925, while Sumanasekera scored a 9.90, with Ciena Alipio and Sydney Barros adding 9.850 each. Following the beam rotation, the Bruins maintained a 148.075-147.725 lead, bolstered by strong performances from Alipio and Barros (both scoring 9.9) and Chiles (9.875).
As the meet concluded, the Bruins showcased their talent on the floor exercise. Alongside Chiles’ perfect score, Alipio earned 9.950, while Barros, Rosen, and Sumanasekera all posted 9.900s. Sullivan contributed with a score of 9.875.
UCLA’s squad, currently sitting at 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten, will compete next against unranked Illinois on February 22, before returning home for a significant Big Fours meet on February 27, where they will face off against Ohio State, Iowa, and Maryland, all of whom are ranked in the top 25.
