Sombr’s 2026 BRIT Awards Performance Raises Questions About Its Authenticity

Viewers were left bewildered after Sombr’s performance at the 2026 BRIT Awards on Sunday, February 28, at Manchester’s Co-op Live.
The 20-year-old singer-songwriter took to the stage to perform his hit song “Undressed,” which achieved the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart in September 2025.
Midway through the performance, an unidentified man rushed the stage and pushed Sombr off the platform. Security quickly apprehended the intruder and escorted him away. Despite the disruption, Sombr, dressed in a shimmering purple outfit, returned to the microphone and continued with his set.
As the chaos unfolded, the dazzling backdrop collapsed, revealing a full band. Sombr smoothly transitioned into his next song, the popular “Back to Friends,” which had recently topped the Billboard Pop Airplay chart.
Social media reactions varied, with one user commenting, “Why do people push artists like wtf Poor Sombr,” while another noted, “Security was a little late on that one…” A third individual questioned whether the incident was staged, and another praised Sombr for his professionalism amidst the chaos.
Adding to the intrigue, the man who pushed Sombr wore a black T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Sombr Is A Homewrecker,” leading some to speculate that the altercation might have been a publicity stunt for the artist’s new single, “Homewrecker.”
One social media user remarked, “His new song is called homewrecker. Very staged. Clever way to get headlines though,” while another applauded Sombr’s marketing acumen, stating, “I actually love when artists come up with clever ways to keep promoting themselves.”
Following the performance, Sombr’s representatives confirmed to Variety that the incident was indeed staged and part of the show. Billboard has reached out for further comment.
BRIT Awards host Jack Whitehall also commented on the incident, saying, “Such a shame we didn’t have the security ready.”
Sombr, a New York City native, was nominated for international artist of the year and international song of the year for “Undressed” at this year’s BRIT Awards but lost to Rosalía and Rosé & Bruno Mars for “APT.,” respectively.
