Son of Grammy-Nominated Opera Singer Charged with Murder
LOS ANGELES – Micah Curtis Sykes, the son of acclaimed opera singer Jubilant Sykes, was charged on Thursday with the murder of his father. The incident took place inside their family home in Santa Monica.
At 31 years old, Micah Sykes is accused of stabbing his father to death during a dispute. Police were summoned to the residence at approximately 9:20 p.m. on December 8 after receiving a 911 call regarding an assault. According to reports, the call was made by Sykes’ wife, who directed officers into the home. There, they discovered Jubilant Sykes with serious injuries indicative of a stabbing.
Micah Sykes was taken into custody at the scene and has remained in jail since his arrest on Monday night. During a court appearance in downtown Los Angeles, his arraignment was postponed until after the New Year, and he was ordered to be held without bail. He faces a murder charge accompanied by a sentence-enhancing allegation for the use of a deadly weapon.
