Police Report Burglary at Toluca Lake Home, Stolen Items Valued at $200K
Burglary in Toluca Lake Marks Latest Incident in San Fernando Valley
In a troubling trend for the San Fernando Valley, two men stole an estimated $200,000 worth of items from a residence in Toluca Lake on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Strohm Avenue, near Toluca Lake Elementary School. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is currently investigating whether this burglary is linked to a series of similar break-ins reported in the area over the past few weeks.
According to police, the suspects gained entry by utilizing a ladder to access an upstairs window. After ransacking the home, they fled the scene without encountering the homeowners, who were not present at the time. The suspects were observed wearing dark clothing, masks, and gloves, further heightening the concern within the community.
Since April 10, at least ten additional burglaries have been reported across various neighborhoods in the Valley, including Sherman Oaks, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Granada Hills, Porter Ranch, Studio City, and Woodland Hills. Most incidents have taken place after 8 p.m., with the intruders evading capture each time.
“It just seems like it’s happening all over the place,” local resident Michael Perez expressed to NBC Los Angeles. “It feels like there are no neighborhoods that are safe. The break-ins are just brazen. They’ll go wherever they want.”
Despite these recent incidents, the LAPD has reported a decrease in overall burglaries compared to last year in several Valley divisions, including a 44% drop in the Valley Bureau and a 47% decline in the West Valley Bureau.
In response to the rise in burglaries, Mayor Karen Bass announced plans to enhance police patrols in high-risk areas, aiming to restore a sense of security among residents in the Valley. The police continue to investigate these incidents, working to establish any connections between them.
