Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Share Heartfelt Memories of Catherine O’Hara at the DGA Awards
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Pay Tribute to Catherine O’Hara at DGA Awards
During his acceptance speech for Best Comedy Series Director at the DGA Awards on Saturday, Seth Rogen expressed a heartfelt gratitude for Catherine O’Hara. "Honestly, there’s no one we wish we could thank in person at this moment more than we would love to thank Catherine O’Hara," said Rogen, who co-created and starred in The Studio.
Both Rogen and his creative partner, Evan Goldberg, received accolades for directing the episode titled "The Magic Hour." Reflecting on their Canadian roots, Goldberg remarked, "We grew up in Canada, and she is and was quite literally our idol since we were children."
Rogen further emphasized O’Hara’s influence, stating, “Yeah. I mean, Home Alone, honestly, is like the movie that made me want to make movies in a lot of ways.” He humorously recalled how they often echoed her famous lines from the film, saying, "In that movie, she’s always yelling ‘Kevin! Kevin!’ and on set we would be yelling ‘Evan! Evan!’ Every time she did, it’s like, Home Alone.”
Rogen also praised O’Hara’s dual brilliance and kindness, saying, “And the best part of her is she showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world. It was an honor to get to direct her every day. We worked very hard to make the show good enough to warrant her time and her presence. So, ultimately, we would like to thank the DGA for this, but we would mostly like to thank Catherine O’Hara for being such a wonderful person and for blessing us with your presence.”
Tragically, O’Hara passed away last week in Los Angeles at the age of 71 after a brief illness. On The Studio, she portrayed a studio executive who transitions into a producer after being fired, a role inspired by former Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairwoman Amy Pascal.
O’Hara was also recognized for her work at the Emmys, receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in September for her performance in the Apple TV/Lionsgate series.
