Alex Garland’s A24 Adaptation of Elden Ring Scheduled for IMAX Release in March 2028, with Cailee Spaeny Joining the Cast
A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced the release of a film adaptation of the acclaimed video game Elden Ring, set to premiere on March 3, 2028. Written and directed by Alex Garland, the film will feature performances from Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw. Filming is currently underway, captured in IMAX format.
Joining Connor and Whishaw, the cast has expanded to include notable actors such as Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz.
Producers for the project include Peter Rice, alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA. Additionally, George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis are also involved in the production.
Garland, a dedicated gamer and admirer of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, reportedly made a personal pitch to Bandai Namco and FromSoftware to secure the film rights.
First released to critical acclaim in February 2022, Elden Ring is an action role-playing game set in a richly crafted dark fantasy universe. Players can embark on expansive adventures through vast environments and intricate dungeons. The narrative is crafted under the guidance of Hidetaka Miyazaki, with a storyline contributed by Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the fantasy series that inspired HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Since its launch, Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies globally and garnered more than 400 Game of the Year awards. The title is celebrated as one of the highest-rated games of all time, achieving one of the largest debuts in Twitch history and ranking among the most searched games on Google. Its success has established it as both a commercial triumph and a cultural phenomenon, with an active global community that produces lore analyses, boss guides, fan art, strategy builds, and tips, while continuously uncovering hidden secrets.
