Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Share Excitement for ‘Practical Magic 2’ at CinemaCon
During their recent appearance at Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon panel, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reflected on their upcoming film, Practical Magic 2. Bullock posed a poignant question: “Why do we come here, Nicole?” to which Kidman replied, “We come to this place for magic.”
The event allowed the stars to reminisce about their 1998 romantic fantasy film, Practical Magic, while providing fans a glimpse into what to expect from the sequel. Kidman teased, “You can expect ‘midnight margaritas, jumping off the roof and also have our past catching up with us. We have our destinies, and the family. I think it’s going to be really, really fun.’”
Bullock echoed her co-star’s sentiments, noting that returning to the project felt like “coming back to a home that we once lived in.” She elaborated, “We rebuilt the original house on the cliff. We filled that house with many old and new characters that you’ll love and brought Alice Hoffman’s Book of Magic to life.”
Kidman reinforced the warmth of their reunion, stating, “Home is what this is. Getting to return to these characters that have been so loved and so shared, it really has been magical. And being back together, it just clicked.”
The story behind Practical Magic 2 involves sisters Sally (Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Kidman), members of a multi-generational family of witches cursed with lovelessness for centuries as they seek to break the spell by confronting dark secrets and making sacrifices for each other.
A trailer for the film showcases the Owens house, featuring a cup stirring itself. The sisters humorously remark, “Everyone we love dies a really horrible death. It’s not great for the Tinder bio.” Accompanied by Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut Song,” the trailer hints at romance, family dynamics, and otherworldly antics, introducing Joey King’s character as one of Bullock’s daughters.
Directed by Susanne Bier, known for her work on The Perfect Couple and Bird Box, the sequel also features returning cast members Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, along with newcomers Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. Co-written by Akiva Goldsman, who penned the original film, and Georgia Pritchett from Succession, Practical Magic 2 is set to release in theaters worldwide on September 11.
