Sabrina Carpenter Shares Her Excitement About the Many Outfit Changes in the ‘Manchild’ Music Video: ‘It Was an Ambitious Shoot’

In a landmark achievement, Sabrina Carpenter has received her first Grammy nomination for Best Music Video for “Manchild.” The song is the lead single from her latest album, titled A Man’s Best Friend, which is also in the running for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
During a guest appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on December 8, Carpenter revealed that shooting the video took an extensive three days, the longest she has ever dedicated to a single production. “Well, so it took two at first,” Carpenter noted. “And then I watched the edit, and I was like, ‘It’s not crazy enough yet,’ and it was already pretty crazy. So we went back and shot a third day.”

The video was filmed at a movie ranch in Santa Clarita, California. Carpenter commented that the desert setting contributed to some of the discomfort during production.

The “Manchild” music video features Carpenter rollerblading down a highway while clinging to a truck, evading gunfire, and even jumping into a shark-infested pool, all while showcasing the 37 different outfits featured throughout the shoot.
In a playful nod to the numerous costume changes, Carpenter took to Instagram, joking, “Take a shot every time I wear a new outfit.”
Despite the challenges faced during filming, including the cactus incident and extensive shoot duration, Carpenter expressed her satisfaction with the final product, stating, “I couldn’t believe it came to life.” She added, “I’m so grateful to be able to make that production of my dreams, but it was definitely like we endured a lot of pain to get the finished product.”
