Rose Byrne may soon be naming her new pet bearded dragon “Oscar.”
The 46-year-old actress received her inaugural Oscar nomination on Thursday, Jan. 22, coinciding with the middle of the night in Sydney, Australia.
“I know, I sound like I’m on drugs. I’m not, I’m just real tired,” said Byrne during a call on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle at 2 a.m. local time. “I went to bed late, and then Bobby called me, and my parents came in. It was so amazing. It’s just, like, so crazy. It’s so surreal. It’s such an honor.”
In reference to her Golden Globes acceptance speech earlier this month, co-host Sheinelle Jones asked Byrne about the new bearded dragon. “He’s so sweet. He’s so sweet,” Byrne replied enthusiastically. “We’re all smitten. The kids are happy; he’s such a sweetie.”

Byrne noted that her family, including Cannavale and their sons Rocco and Rafael, had not yet decided on a name for their newest addition.
“Well, maybe you can name him Oscar,” co-host Jenna Bush Hager suggested. Byrne responded with a smile, “Perfect, done!”
Byrne secured her nomination in the Best Actress category for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She is competing against Jessie Buckley from Hamnet, Kate Hudson in Song Sung Blue, Renate Reinsve from Sentimental Value, and Emma Stone in Bugonia.
“The women are incredible in this category,” Byrne shared. “I feel like I’m the naughty kid that snuck in the back of the bus. I can’t believe it.”

Earlier this month, Byrne garnered attention during her Golden Globes acceptance speech, citing Cannavale’s reason for his absence from the event. “I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale,” she said. “He couldn’t make it here because we’re getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey. So, thank you, baby.”
Upon learning of her Oscar nomination, Byrne expressed her gratitude in a statement: “I am speechless and beyond honored to be amongst this extraordinary group of women: Jessie, Renate, Kate, and Emma,” she shared. “This is a radical film and was the gift of a lifetime to play Linda. I am so humbled to be recognized by the Academy for this punk rock film and to be included amongst the astounding performances this year. This recognition is beyond my wildest dreams, and I share this with Mary Bronstein.”
