Key Details
- Romy Reiner, the daughter of actor-director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, discovered her father’s body at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14.
- After the discovery, Romy left the home unaware that her mother had also died, according to reports.
- Paramedics later informed her that Michele had been killed.
Romy Reiner, 27, arrived at the Brentwood home of her parents after a massage therapist attempted to access the property but was unable to do so. This incident occurred on the afternoon of December 14, as reported by the New York Times.
Upon discovering her father’s body, Romy reportedly fled the home, not knowing that her mother, Michele, was also deceased inside. According to a family source, she was informed of her mother’s death by paramedics shortly thereafter.
Earlier reports indicated that Romy discovered her father’s body just hours before her brother, Nick, was located by police and arrested near the University of Southern California campus around 9:15 p.m. that same evening. Nick was not at home at the time of the discovery.

Romy is the youngest of Rob and Michele’s three children, joining her brothers Nick, 32, and Jake, 34.
Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation of using a knife, a development announced by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on December 16. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has also indicated that the possibility of pursuing the death penalty in this case has not been ruled out.
“Prosecuting cases involving family violence are some of the most challenging and heart-wrenching we face because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes,” Hochman stated. He described Rob Reiner as one of the greatest filmmakers of his generation and expressed the need to seek justice and accountability for their tragic deaths.
