Jessica Chastain Shows Off Her New Short Hair at the 2026 Breakthrough Prize Celebration
Jessica Chastain Shines at the 12th Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony
Jessica Chastain made a stunning appearance at the 12th Annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony held on Saturday, April 18, in Los Angeles. The acclaimed actress, 49, turned heads in a strapless Oscar de la Renta gown adorned with gold floral appliqués, perfectly complementing her fresh bob hairstyle.
After revealing her new look, Chastain took to Instagram on Sunday, April 19, to share a video of hairstylist Renato Campora cutting her long locks. She captioned the post, “Choppity chop.” Campora later confirmed in a separate post that he had given Chastain a “fresh haircut” just in time for the prestigious event.
Chastain is often recognized for her signature long red waves. In a 2017 interview with Refinery29, she reflected on her childhood experiences with her distinctive hair, stating, “As a child, I didn’t want to be different… Whatever you are ridiculed about that makes you different is what you’ll celebrate in the future.” She appreciates her natural look, asserting, “If I wanted to dye my hair, I could, but I realized that’s who I am, and my differences [make me] special.”
Rather than altering her hair color for film roles, Chastain prefers to use wigs, saying, “The one way to change my physicality is through wigs. Wigs are amazing because they not only change your hair color, they can also change your hairline and the texture.”
As she has aged, Chastain has also embraced her natural hair, including gray streaks. In a 2024 episode of Vogue’s “Beauty Secrets” series, she remarked, “This is my natural hair color… the cool thing about red hair too is that it turns white, it doesn’t really turn gray.”
During her Vogue appearance, Chastain emphasized the importance of self-care, stating, “Taking care of your skin is an extension of taking care of yourself. The goal is to look as natural as possible.”
