Reseda Community Struggles with Ongoing Safety Concerns After Numerous Police Responses
Reseda Residents Live in Fear Amid Ongoing Harassment from Neighbor
Residents of a Reseda neighborhood are expressing growing concern for their safety due to the erratic behavior of a local resident. The man, identified as "Greg," has allegedly been shouting death threats at all hours and exposing himself to children, resulting in over 200 calls to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) since 2022.
Despite the multitude of complaints, residents claim that the LAPD has not made any arrests, arguing that police view the incidents as "civil disputes." Many from the community assert that they feel trapped in a cycle of fear with no resolution in sight.
Neighbor Jozef Peter highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, "We’ve contacted the police 209 times." The harassment has reportedly included graphic verbal abuse and public nudity, leaving many families uneasy about their safety.
In a recent encounter with FOX 11, Greg defended his actions, stating, "I’m the Messiah, I’m trying to save them… From death." His comments suggest a belief that his behavior is an attempt at protection rather than a threat.
Residents describe the atmosphere of their neighborhood as fraught with fear. Neighbor Susie Nelson recounted instances of verbal assault, saying, "He says he’s going to kill people with a knife, he says he’s gonna shoot people." Similarly, Eduardo Pulido noted personalized attacks directed at neighbors, amplifying concerns about the situation.
Following an incident where police refused to take Greg into custody, Nelson expressed frustration at their response. "They just start citing all these codes and laws that they can’t do anything. There’s nothing they can do," she lamented.
As tensions rise, the community is left questioning whether Greg may have a history of mental health interventions. However, details surrounding this remain unclear. The LAPD has not disclosed specific laws or regulations that might prevent intervention in cases of indecent exposure and criminal threats.
In a statement, an LAPD spokesperson characterized the situation as a neighbor dispute, emphasizing that no criminal activity occurred and suggesting that any issues should be addressed through civil court. This response has not satisfied the concerned residents, who fear for their safety.
Eduardo Pulido expressed his worries, noting, "They’re just waiting for him to finally break and hurt someone; hurt my kids or other neighbors." The community continues to advocate for a more permanent solution to address their fears before the situation possibly escalates into physical violence.
