Detectives Recover $4 Million in Stolen Cargo, One Arrested in Vernon
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. — In a coordinated effort to combat organized retail crime, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) recovered approximately $4 million worth of stolen cargo during a search operation in Vernon. One individual has been arrested in connection with the case.
The operation was led by the Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team (CCATS), a specialized unit formed within the LASD’s Major Crimes Bureau in 2023. During the search, officials uncovered a substantial amount of stolen goods linked to eight different companies, including major retailers like Footlocker and Epson.
The diverse array of recovered items included nicotine pouches, televisions, shoes, printers, data center cooling equipment, speakers, and high-end skincare products, highlighting the extensive nature of the thefts.
The arrested suspect faces charges of receiving stolen property, as clarified by the LASD. However, authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the individual or the specifics of their involvement, raising questions about whether the suspect was operating independently or as part of a larger network.
Authorities have not provided details regarding the timeline or location of the original thefts that led to the cargo being stored in Vernon. The investigation is now being passed to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will decide on the formal filing of charges.
As the investigation progresses, law enforcement is seeking public assistance to help in ongoing probes into organized retail and cargo crime.
