Reba McEntire Clarifies Her Relationship with Rex Linn on Today Show with Savannah Guthrie
Reba McEntire Clarifies Engagement Status on Today
Reba McEntire is setting the record straight about her relationship with Rex Linn. During an appearance on the Today show, the 70-year-old country music star addressed co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mistake when she referred to Linn as McEntire’s husband.
"Now, wait a minute. Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged," McEntire clarified. She praised their work together on the sitcom Happy’s Place, describing the experience as a "blast."
Guthrie, who apologized for the mix-up, prompted McEntire to explain their relationship further, jokingly noting that her family might question her silence on the matter: “My family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us?!’”
Linn, who is 69 years old, was present during the interview and initially appeared surprised by the slip before smiling as McEntire discussed their dynamic. She emphasized the joy of working alongside him, noting, "He is a workaholic, and he loves to rehearse… We have a blast. We’re so grateful that we get to go to work together, work together, and then go home together."
Reflecting on their engagement, which was confirmed in September, McEntire shared that they reconnected in 2020 after her mother’s passing. "In 2020, when Mama got sick, he called me," she recalled. Despite knowing each other since the 90s, their relationship flourished in the subsequent years.
McEntire announced that they got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2024, sharing, "A lot of people did not know. We were gonna announce it when we got back to L.A., but the fires happened…there was not room for our joy in the situation that everybody else was in."
As for their wedding plans, McEntire hinted at a low-key celebration, stating, "It’s going to be low-key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food. Our big motto is just have fun."
With filming for season two of Happy’s Place under their belts, McEntire expressed excitement about the progress they have made as a team. "Season 2’s so much fun! It’s so much more fun now we know each other," she concluded.
