Queen Latifah Shares Insights on Her New Biopic and Role in ‘The Equalizer’
Queen Latifah is set to produce a biopic that will spotlight her journey as one of hip-hop’s most notable figures. Her production company, Flavor Unit Entertainment, has teamed up with Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment to bring this project to life. "I’m going to be one of the first to do it. Will [Smith] is going to do his as well, and he’s also integral in my story,” she remarked.
A pressing concern for Queen Latifah revolves around casting. “This is going to be big casting,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of finding someone capable of portraying the various stages of her life. Having started her career at the age of 17, she reflected on the challenges of adapting to her celebrity status. “I was like, there’s no way I can live up to this, this ‘Queen Latifah’, she’s a business, she’s much bigger than who I am. I had to come to grips with that,” she explained.
Progress on the biopic is underway, with writing currently in the works. “It’s gonna take a minute,” she noted, highlighting the thoughtful approach being taken.
In addition to this project, Queen Latifah recently concluded her role as Robyn McCall in CBS’s series The Equalizer, which ran for five seasons. As she takes time to decompress after the show’s finale, she remains open to the possibility of returning to that universe. “When it comes to The Equalizer universe, anything is possible. I put a lot of who I am into Robyn McCall, so it’s definitely possible to see more iterations of who she is, different versions, maybe,” she hinted.
