Police Take Action in MacArthur Park: Five Arrested with Drugs and Cash
Five Arrested in MacArthur Park Narcotics Operation
Five individuals were taken into custody on state charges during a narcotics enforcement operation in the MacArthur Park area, as confirmed by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday.
The operation was conducted by Rampart Division narcotics detectives on Thursday evening near the 600 block of South Alvarado Street, situated across from MacArthur Park. Authorities indicated that the arrests stemmed from an active scene of narcotics sales. Those detained were identified as employees of a nearby business.
During the operation, officers seized fentanyl, prescription medications, and a substantial amount of U.S. currency. "Five suspects were arrested on state charges, while my office determines whether to bring federal charges with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles against these suspects," stated First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli on X.
Earlier this month, a related initiative known as “Operation Free MacArthur Park” resulted in the arrest of at least 18 individuals suspected of drug trafficking and supplying illegal substances in the area.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell emphasized that the department is committed to collaborating with federal agents in efforts to combat narcotics trafficking. Essayli reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining a strong law enforcement presence in the park to ensure community safety.
