Hilary Duff Performs a Beloved Song for a Young Fan for the First Time
Hilary Duff Performs “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Live for First Time
Fans of Hilary Duff were thrilled as she performed “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” for the first time at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on May 14, marking a significant moment more than a decade after the song’s release.
The track, featured on her 2015 album of the same name, was part of Duff’s setlist during her performance for SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series. Video footage shared by Billboard captured Duff delivering the song with aplomb, dressed in jeans and a flowing pink top. Her voice resonated with clarity as she engaged the audience.
As she sang, “I made a top 10 list of all the things I missed/ Your lyin’ eyes and lips, they didn’t make it,” enthusiastic fans joined in, singing every word. The lyrics continued, “And when I’m cold at night, I know that I’ll survive/ Until I feel all right, I’m gonna fake it.”
The song previously reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and marked Duff’s final album release until Luck … or Something arrived in February, ending her decade-long hiatus in music. Duff is set to embark on her Lucky Me Tour in June.
In a pre-show interview with SiriusXM, Duff acknowledged the challenges of making a musical comeback after her extended absence. “I don’t even think I had processed how scary it was, you know?” she reflected. “To just be on stage again and singing my old songs actually felt more comfortable than singing some of the new ones.”
She added, “There’s, like, muscle memory with those. But these [new songs] feel so a part of who I am now that it’s just this really cool like combination.”
