Daycare Worker Accused of Throwing Shoe at Young Girl in Inglewood
Day Care Worker Fired After Disturbing Incident with Child
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – A day care worker has been terminated after a video surfaced showing her throwing a shoe at a 5-year-old girl. The incident occurred at the Destiny Development Center in Inglewood on January 16.
In the footage, the worker throws a shoe towards the child, prompting her to cry. The video has raised significant concern among parents and the community at large. Kira Townsend, the girl’s aunt, expressed her dismay not only at the worker’s actions but also at the inaction of the other staff present. "How do you see a kid be abused and not take action? How do you not speak up? The video shows me their reaction; they appeared comfortable with what they did," Townsend stated.
In response to the incident, the Destiny Development Center has confirmed the firing of the worker as well as two other women seen in the video. Danielle Williams, the center’s director, emphasized that this behavior does not reflect the values of the facility. "This is not a representation of my school. It’s a representation of a bad hire. We don’t approve of abuse. I’ve been doing this for too long. I have a heart for kids. I love what I do," she said.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the incident. The family of the child hopes that charges will be filed against the three terminated workers, aiming to ensure they are never placed in a position around children again. Townsend added, "People send their children to daycares and schools, thinking that our children are safe, that they’ll be protected, that they’ll be treated with kindness. In this video, that did not display that at all."
