Police Find Drug Lab During Assault Investigation in Santa Fe Springs
Police Uncover Large Illegal Drug Manufacturing Lab in Santa Fe Springs
Two individuals were arrested Friday after police discovered a significant illegal synthetic drug manufacturing operation in Santa Fe Springs, authorities reported.
The incident began around 2:10 p.m. when Whittier police responded to a report of an assault involving a vehicle in the 9600 block of Santa Fe Springs Road. Fire personnel were already on-site investigating a suspicious odor.
Officers later found the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of Presbyterian Inter-Community Hospital in Whittier, leading to the apprehension of one suspect after an extensive area search.
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement directed their efforts to an industrial building at 9620 Santa Fe Springs Road. There, they uncovered what they described as a large and complex illegal chemical drug manufacturing lab. A second suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter.
A specialized task force has been activated to determine the types of chemicals involved and to dismantle the lab, a process that authorities indicated is currently ongoing.
