Patton Joins the Cast of the New ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Series on MGM+
Will Patton Cast as Lead in MGM+ Drama Series ‘The Magnificent Seven’
Will Patton has been announced as a lead opposite Matt Dillon in MGM+’s upcoming drama series, The Magnificent Seven, a reimagining of the classic 1960 Western film. The series is created by Tim Kring, known for his work on Heroes.
Patton, recognized for his roles in Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga and Armageddon, will portray the ruthless baron Cyrus T. Clemons. He joins Dillon, who plays Chris Adams, a character originally portrayed by Yul Brynner in the 1960 film. Unlike Adams, Clemons is a new character in this adaptation.
Set in the 1880s American frontier, Clemons is depicted as confident and self-assured, believing in his own destined success. Initially a humble music teacher before the Civil War, he emerges from the horrific battle of the Bloody Angle with a changed perspective, understanding that life consists of winners and losers. Determined to succeed at any cost, he aims to establish his legacy in a town named after him. However, his ambitions clash with a group of peaceful Quakers who refuse to sell their land, leading him to confront the Magnificent Seven. As his plans begin to unravel, Clemons becomes increasingly desperate.
Tim Kring not only wrote the series but also serves as executive producer alongside Donald De Line, Lawrence Mirisch, Bruce Kaufman, and Dillon. Casting was directed by Seth Yanklewitz, with MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios producing the project.
The new series is set to be available on MGM+ in various countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and several nations in Europe and Latin America.
Patton’s extensive film credits include Remember the Titans, No Way Out, The Mothman Prophecies, and the Oscar-winning Minari. Recently, he appeared in the reboot of the Halloween franchise alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. In 2022, he received a nomination for best actor from the Film Independent Spirit Awards for his role in Alexander Rockwell’s Sweet Thing. Furthermore, he narrated the Netflix film Train Dreams, garnering accolades including the 2026 Astra Award for Best Voice Over Performance.
On television, Patton stars in Apple TV’s Silo alongside Rebecca Ferguson and David Oyelowo, and he is featured in the upcoming series Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey on Paramount+. He has also played significant roles in Amazon’s Outer Range and the popular series Yellowstone, as well as Captain Weaver in Steven Spielberg’s Falling Skies on TNT. Patton is represented by Independent Artist Group and Grand View Management.
