OXNARD, Calif. — Anita Hurtado was arrested on May 13 for allegedly stealing a $35,000 handcrafted copper fountain from The Collection at RiverPark. This significant theft occurred in two separate incidents on February 3 and February 15, according to local authorities.
The fountain, created by a local artist, was dismantled for its scrap metal value. Investigators determined that the stolen copper was transported to a recycling center where it was processed.
Hurtado is currently facing multiple charges, including grand theft, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The investigation into the theft is still ongoing, with law enforcement looking for additional details regarding the circumstances of the crime.
As of now, it remains unclear whether authorities are pursuing any other suspects in connection with the case, or if any part of the artwork has been recovered prior to being processed by the recycler. Additionally, the specific method used to dismantle the large copper structure in a public shopping area has not been disclosed.
Hurtado will now proceed to face legal actions pertaining to the felony charges against her.
