Oxnard Man Admits Guilt in Child Sexual Abuse Material Case
Oxnard Man Pleads Guilty to Child Sexual Abuse Material Charges
VENTURA, Calif. — Gary Steven Daniel, a 47-year-old resident of Oxnard and a registered sex offender, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material in two separate cases, as reported by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
The district attorney’s announcement on Thursday revealed that Daniel had entered guilty pleas involving child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as CSAM. Notably, he was free on bail when the second offense took place.
Daniel’s criminal history dates back to 2015, when he was first convicted of possessing CSAM in Missouri. He faced another conviction for a similar offense in Ventura County in 2019, which resulted in a six-year sentence in state prison due to his previous convictions.
Following his release, district attorney investigators arrested Daniel in July 2024 for a new offense involving CSAM. The investigation uncovered that he attempted to conceal his activities by storing material in cloud-based accounts, which he accessed with a burner phone. Authorities identified significant amounts of CSAM in those accounts.
While awaiting trial on the subsequent charges, Daniel posted $50,000 bail but was arrested again following four CyberTip reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children between October and December 2025. This led to a search warrant being executed at his Oxnard residence.
Ultimately, Daniel pleaded guilty to three felony counts related to the possession and control of child sexual abuse material.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Mike Wise remarked on the arduous work of the task force involved in Daniel’s case, stating, "They are exposed to the worst type of images every day, but they nevertheless show up ready to make sure justice is done."
Daniel remains in custody with bail set at $500,000, and his sentencing is scheduled for February 17, where he could face up to eight years and eight months in state prison.
