Over $180,000 in Pokémon Cards Stolen in Anaheim Smash-and-Grab Incident
Thieves Steal $180,000 in Pokémon Cards from Anaheim Collectibles Store
ANAHEIM, Calif. – In a brazen act of theft, four suspects broke into a collectibles store in Anaheim, making off with approximately $180,000 worth of Pokémon cards. The incident was captured on surveillance video, revealing the thieves’ elaborate method of entry.
Police reported that the suspects targeted Do-We Collectibles on Harbor Boulevard early Wednesday morning, February 18, around 3 a.m. Initially, they broke the glass of a neighboring insurance office before cutting through the wall to access the collectible store. Once inside, they shattered display cases and seized a number of valuable cards, including one estimated at $10,000.
Do-We Collectibles has experienced two break-ins within the past six months, prompting concern among its owners. Vincent Bui, a representative of the store, expressed that the robbery was both devastating and somewhat predictable given the rising number of similar incidents affecting collectible shops in the area.
"They had come in during the daytime and scouted the area, knew where the display cases are, knew where to go, knew what our weaknesses are," Bui said.
In a twist of irony, one of the suspects left behind a phone, which police have since used as evidence, as it was found unlocked at the scene.
Authorities are currently searching for the four suspects involved in this high-stakes theft, as well as working to increase security measures for local collectible shops.
