LeBron James and Luka Dončić Shine with 30 Points as Lakers Edge Past Pelicans 111-103
Lakers Defeat Pelicans 111-103 in Tuesday Night Clash
On Tuesday, LeBron James scored 30 points as the Los Angeles Lakers overcame the New Orleans Pelicans, securing a 111-103 victory at the Smoothie King Center. Luka Doncic also contributed significantly, rounding out his impressive performance with 30 points and 10 assists, including two critical off-balance three-point shots as the shot clock expired.
This win marks the Lakers’ fourth victory in their last five games, further deepening the Pelicans’ struggles as they faced their eighth consecutive loss. Deandre Ayton added to the Lakers’ success with a double-double, posting 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Pelicans started strong, with Trey Murphy achieving a career-high 41 points, while Zion Williamson and rookie Derik Queen chipped in with 15 and 10 points, respectively. At one point, New Orleans held a nine-point lead late in the third quarter.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth. The Lakers initiated an 18-4 run featuring two deep three-pointers from James, another from Dalton Knecht, and two baskets in the paint by Ayton, bringing the score to 97-90. From there, the Pelicans couldn’t draw closer than four points.
The third quarter saw neither team take a commanding lead until Karlo Matkovic’s free throws helped the Pelicans establish an 83-74 advantage. However, James responded quickly with three free throws and a breakaway dunk, narrowing Los Angeles’s deficit to four. Murphy, who dominated the third period with 20 points, captured the lead heading into the final stanza with a driving reverse scoop.
Despite the return of Herb Jones from a right ankle injury that sidelined him for seven games, he struggled with his shooting, making just one of his nine attempts. The Pelicans faced additional challenges at the free-throw line, missing five out of their 18 attempts, with Williamson accounting for four of those misses.
In contrast, the Lakers finished with a shooting percentage of 50.6%, successfully completing 43 of their 85 attempts, while the Pelicans shot 44% from the field, converting 40 of 91 shots but struggling with their three-point game, missing 30 of their 40 attempts.
Both teams are set to compete again on Wednesday night, with the Lakers traveling to face the San Antonio Spurs, while the Pelicans will visit the Atlanta Hawks.
