Ophira Eisenberg Shares Her New Comedy Special ‘I Used To Be Nicer,’ Created with Lewis Black
Comedian Ophira Eisenberg to Premiere New Special on Veeps
Comedian Ophira Eisenberg has officially announced the premiere of her new comedy special, I Used to Be Nicer, produced by Lewis Black’s Stark Raving Black. The special is set to air at 5 p.m. PT on Friday, May 15, on Veeps.
In this candid performance, Eisenberg humorously critiques various aspects of life, including toxic positivity, parenting, marriage, aging, therapy, and even the rising cost of eggs.
“I’ve been told my whole life that I’m so nice,” Eisenberg remarked. “Is it the Canadian in me? The accommodating woman in me? Well thanks to parenthood, getting a little older, and being told to ‘just be positive’ one too many times, I can finally say I used to be nicer. Now I’m honest. And it’s better for comedy!”
Directed by Benjamin Brewer, I Used to Be Nicer was recorded at the Village Underground at the Comedy Cellar in New York City. The hour-long special features production by Jack Gulick and Brewer, along with executive producers Lenny Marcus and Eisenberg herself.
Lewis Black, a veteran comic and actor known for his appearances on The Daily Show and his own specials, expressed great pride in producing Eisenberg’s work. “I am not only joyful but proud to have produced Ophira Eisenberg’s special. And I am rarely one who feels joy or even uses that word, but I think when you watch it, you will understand why I am. Also, it’s nice to have been part of getting her a larger audience—one she deserves as her work continues to evolve. She nails her subjects—from society to relationships to motherhood to marriage—with a barbed humor that is as funny as it is insightful. She opens our eyes with laughter.”
Eisenberg, who is also a writer and podcaster, previously released her special Inside Joke with Comedy Dynamics. She frequently tours with The Moth Mainstage and hosts the podcast Parenting is a Joke, while having hosted NPR’s trivia comedy show Ask Me Another for nine years. Additionally, her memoir, Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy, has been optioned for television, and her solo show, Leaving A Mark: A Comedy About Scars, won the Women in the Arts & Media Award for Solo Show Scripts and recently completed a successful European tour.
Eisenberg is represented by Jodi Lieberman of Lieberman Entertainment and Peikoff Mahan.
