Debbie Harry Introduces Olivia Rodrigo’s Lively Performance of ‘Drop Dead’ on SNL
Olivia Rodrigo solidified her status in the pop-rock realm with a surprise endorsement from Debbie Harry, lead vocalist of Blondie, during her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live. Harry introduced Rodrigo to the audience, marking a notable moment for the rising star.
This marked Rodrigo’s first time hosting the show while also performing. She took to the Studio 8H stage for the third time, debuting her new track “drop dead.” The three-time Grammy-winning artist released both the song and its music video—dreamily directed by Petra Collins at the Louvre—just two weeks prior.
Transitioning seamlessly between roles, Rodrigo donned a flowing green and pink dress as she energized the audience with her latest performance. Her upcoming album, titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, is scheduled for release on June 12.
Harry’s introduction adds to a trend of musical icons making guest appearances on the show. Paul Simon previously joined Harry Styles for a brief moment in March while Styles was also performing.
Additionally, comedian Aziz Ansari surprised viewers by making an appearance at 30 Rock, where he humorously critiqued FBI Director Kash Patel during the show’s Cold Open.
Blondie, recognized as a pioneer of the new wave movement since its debut in 1974, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and has achieved sales exceeding 40 million records worldwide. The band announced plans for a new album, High Noon, set to be released in the spring of 2026.
Rodrigo previously graced the SNL stage as a musical guest in 2021, alongside host Keegan-Michael Key, and again in 2023 with host Adam Driver.
