Nike’s Trademark Application for Bronny James’ ‘b9’ Logo Gets Rejected: What Happened?
Nike has faced a setback in its attempt to secure trademark protection for the ‘B9’ logo associated with Bronny James. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has denied the application, citing a “likelihood of confusion” with the existing trademark of Back9 Golf Apparel.
According to the USPTO, the similarities between the two marks—specifically in their appearance, sound, and overall commercial impression—led to the decision, despite notable differences in font and design.
Nike now has a window until July 13 to file an appeal against this ruling. The outcome of this case may have implications not only for Nike’s branding strategies but also for how trademarks are evaluated in future applications.
