Gun Found at Perris High School Leads to Lockdown for Student Safety
Student Arrested After Loaded Firearm Found at Perris High School
A loaded firearm was discovered at Orange Vista High School in Perris on Friday morning, prompting authorities to institute a lockdown at the campus. The Val Verde District Police Department reported that the gun was found around 10 a.m.
The student who brought the firearm onto campus has since been arrested and transported to a Riverside County detention facility for minors.
In response to the incident, law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of the school, aided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad and K-9 unit. Police confirmed that no additional weapons were found during the search.
Fortunately, all students and staff remained safe, and there were no reported injuries related to the incident.
In a social media statement, the Val Verde District Police Department urged the school community to adhere to the "see something, say something" principle. “If you observe anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to school staff or law enforcement,” the department advised.
