Netflix Collaborates with Hansal Mehta, Anil Kapoor, and Sunny Deol for Exciting Indian Original Series
Netflix is intensifying its commitment to the Indian market with the announcement of several new projects featuring prominent figures like Hansal Mehta, Anil Kapoor, Sunny Deol, and Saif Ali Khan.
During a recent local slate announcement, Monika Shergill, Netflix’s Vice President of Content for India, remarked, “A decade of streaming has taught us that there’s no single way to tell Indian stories.” Notably, Netflix marks ten years in India in 2026.
Among the standout projects set for release this year is Family Business, a drama series from Hansal Mehta and Niren Bhatt, reminiscent of Succession. The series centers on a visionary billionaire, portrayed by Kapoor, who grooms a rising tycoon, played by Vijay Varma, as his successor in India’s largest conglomerate. However, after a few months, the billionaire unceremoniously fires his protégé, leading to an all-out corporate battle as the ousted successor fights back.
Family Business boasts an impressive cast that includes Kapoor, Varma, Akash Khurana, Rhea Chakraborty, Neha Dhupia, and several others. Mehta serves as the executive producer and director, while Deepali Gupta provides the screenplay. The project is produced in partnership with Abundantia Entertainment and True Story Films.
In addition to Family Business, Netflix is also exploring psychological themes with Accused, directed by Anubhuti Kashyap. This film follows a renowned queer doctor in London whose life spirals after being accused of sexual misconduct, forcing her wife to confront a troubling decision between support and self-preservation. The film features Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta, with Dharmatic Entertainment as the production company.
Another notable entry is IKKA, a courtroom drama starring Sunny Deol. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, the film centers on an incorruptible lawyer who must defend a man accused of murder, despite their complicated past. Writers Althea Kaushal and Mayank Tewari contribute to the script, while Malhotra and Sapna Malhotra are involved in production.
Additional upcoming projects include Chumbak, which explores the lives of five families in a Mumbai neighborhood, the reality series Desi Bling, and Hello Bachon, about an inspiring physics teacher. Other highlights are Legacy, a family crime drama, and Talaash: A Mother’s Search, centered on a mother receiving yearly photographs of her kidnapped son.
The slate also features returning series such as Maamla Legal Hai, Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai, and Mismatched. The romantic comedy Musafir Cafe chronicles the intertwined lives of three wanderers, while The Great Indian Kapil Show prepares for its fifth season.
Looking ahead, Netflix’s extensive film lineup includes projects like Ghooskhor Pandat, a thriller revolving around a corrupt police officer, and Kartavya, starring Saif Ali Khan. The anthology series Lust Stories will release its third installment, and Maa Behen, a dark comedy, tells the story of a mother and her troublemaking daughters entangled in a mystery.
These new developments underscore Netflix’s strategic push to grow its presence and storytelling diversity in India as it approaches a significant milestone.
