Mike Cavanagh Reflects on a Thriving February Filled with the Olympics, Super Bowl, and NBA Highlights at Comcast
Comcast CEO Highlights Major Sports Push and Streaming Success
Comcast CEO Mike Cavanagh expressed enthusiasm over the company’s significant sports initiatives during a presentation at Morgan Stanley’s annual media and telecom conference on Tuesday. He highlighted the impressive statistics surrounding NBCUniversal’s February sports lineup, which included the Super Bowl LV, the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, and the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend.
“I don’t think most people appreciate … the incredible effort it takes across the whole company,” Cavanagh stated during the Q&A session. He emphasized Comcast’s roots as a broadband and distribution company, revealing that 17 billion minutes were streamed on Peacock in February, with minimal glitches reported. “We know how to do this stuff,” Cavanagh noted, referencing his recent elevation to co-CEO alongside Brian Roberts. “On the tech side, it’s a very big deal.”
He praised NBCUniversal’s strengths in sports production and storytelling, mentioning notable contributors like Mike Tirico, Snoop Dogg, and Stanley Tucci. Cavanagh reported that the marketing strategies achieved 9 billion impressions promoting both sports and entertainment, which comprised half of Peacock’s viewership during the games held from February 6 to 22.
Cavanagh also assured stakeholders that Peacock’s profitability is expected to arrive sooner rather than later, with the platform ending 2025 with an estimated 44 million subscribers.
In discussing Epic Universe, Cavanagh noted a slowdown in international visitation to Orlando parks but highlighted robust domestic attendance. He referenced comments by Disney CFO Hugh Johnston, who made similar observations about Disney World at the same conference.
“Epic is driving higher per caps across the whole Orlando parks system, and hotel stays, and length of stays,” Cavanagh stated. “It’s check, check, check.” He concluded by anticipating improvements in park operations and workforce capacity.
