March in LA: Join the Community for International Migrants Day
LOS ANGELES – A coalition of labor unions, faith leaders, and immigrant rights organizations will march through Los Angeles on Thursday to commemorate International Migrants Day.
The march is set to traverse several neighborhoods, including Koreatown and MacArthur Park, before concluding at a Home Depot location in Pico-Union. Organizers have chosen these areas due to their recent experiences with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.
In addition to the march, the coalition is advocating for a boycott of major retailers, specifically Target and Home Depot. Organizers claim these corporations have not adequately opposed violence against immigrants and other marginalized communities.
International Migrants Day, observed annually on December 18, highlights the need for inclusive and equitable migration systems. The theme for 2025, "My Great Story: Cultures and Development," underscores the role of human mobility in driving economic growth and enriching the social fabric of receiving societies.
This year’s message is deemed especially urgent amid changing political climates in countries like the U.S., which have shown decreasing compassion toward vulnerable populations.
Organizers stress that when migration is managed effectively, it can provide safety for those seeking refuge while offering significant benefits to host communities. By marching through neighborhoods affected by enforcement actions and calling for corporate accountability, they hope to draw attention to the critical contributions of migrants in shaping modern economies and fostering global development.
