Mandy Moore Shares Her Journey with Eczema and the Emotions Behind It
Mandy Moore Discusses Eczema Journey and Evolving Beauty Routine
Mandy Moore, known for her versatile roles in film and television, recently opened up about her personal battles with eczema and her current approach to beauty and skin care. Meeting in a hotel suite on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Moore donned a striking burnt orange velvet dress, effortlessly embracing the fall vibe. Her hair, styled with voluminous bangs, created a captivating look.
Reflecting on her appearance, Moore noted a significant shift from her previous blonde phase. "Less is more is always going to be my philosophy," she emphasized, highlighting a more simplified approach to her beauty routine as she navigates the complexities of motherhood with young children.
On the topic of her skin health, Moore revealed that she has been managing atopic dermatitis since before her time on This Is Us. The condition manifested as painful, red patches that made her feel as if her face was "on fire." "I wanted to tear my face off," she recalled, describing the unrelenting discomfort while filming.
Moore’s diagnosis came in 2019, which she found to be a relief, providing clarity and a path for treatment. "When I threw the kitchen sink at it and the symptoms just kept persisting, I was like, it’s time to go to the dermatologist," she explained. Since then, she has actively worked with her dermatologist to manage her condition.
Now, in collaboration with Incyte on the Moments of Clarity campaign, Moore aims to raise awareness about eczema and educate others about treatment options. Eczema affects over 21 million people in the U.S., yet many remain uncertain about its causes and management. "We’re really talking about the barrier and the seal of the skin," explained dermatologist Dr. Sonia Batra, who elaborated on how cracked skin allows irritants and bacteria to penetrate, exacerbating the condition.
Moore approaches her eczema management strategically, avoiding triggers such as stress and cold weather. She cites her diet, particularly omega-3s and probiotics, as beneficial for her skin. Dr. Batra noted that evidence supports the connection between gut health and skin conditions.
Emphasizing a minimalist approach to beauty, Moore favors clean products that are free of harmful additives. Her favorite is a biphase moisturizing oil, which she describes as immediately beneficial for her skin. Other preferred clean makeup brands include Rituel De Fille and Iris & Romeo.
As a fashion icon, Moore also expressed her views on the current resurgence of 90s trends such as lip gloss and low-rise jeans. While she acknowledges the cyclical nature of trends, she humorously remarked, "I’m like, we’re here again already?" Her take on fashion reflects wisdom gained over time, asserting her preference to leave certain styles to younger generations.
Through her journey, Moore exemplifies resilience and adaptability in both her personal life and professional career.
