Following the screening, both Madonna and the directors will engage in a conversation with Jimmy Fallon to discuss their creative processes.
The film features tracks like “I Feel So Free” and the collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, “Bring Your Love.” It is described in a press release as “a transcendent journey that catapults the viewer through a f–ked-up night out that’s remembered not for what happened, but for how it felt.” The narrative follows Madonna as she is ambushed, pursued, and ultimately worshipped by a group of camera-wielding women, traversing various spaces, including bedrooms, club bathrooms, and arenas. Throughout this journey, reflections on recurring dualities in Madonna’s career—privacy versus publicity, grief versus catharsis, and intimacy versus communion—are explored, ultimately returning to the dance floor, the enduring heart of her artistry.
“Madonna has spent decades proving that reinvention is its own art form,” remarked Tribeca Festival cofounder Jane Rosenthal in the press release. “*Confessions II* feels immersive, provocative and completely of the moment, while still channeling the kind of nightlife mythology only she could create. We are thrilled to welcome Madonna back to Tribeca.” This will be her second appearance at the festival; she previously attended in 2008 for the premiere of *I Am Because We Are*, a documentary about children in Malawi orphaned by AIDS, which she executive produced.
Rosenthal also shared insights about Madonna’s connection to Tribeca, noting her friendship with the artist’s manager, Guy Oseary, which has further strengthened the ties. “She’s got an album dropping and it lined up perfectly,” she added.
*Confessions II*, reuniting Madonna with producer Stuart Price, is set to be released on July 3.
