Cody Simpson Cancels Shows Due to Serious Vocal Cord Hemorrhage

Australian singer Cody Simpson is facing a significant hurdle in his music career as he promotes his latest single and completes his upcoming album. On Monday, May 11, he disclosed that he suffered “a serious hemorrhage” on one of his vocal cords, prompting him to seek medical treatment and adhere to strict vocal rest to prevent further injury, all while continuing to develop new songs.
In a candid post, Simpson shared a selfie taken in a doctor’s office decorated with CDs and signed music plaques. He stated, “I originally thought I could keep this private but it’s come time I share what I’ve been going through.”
The singer explained that he was diagnosed with the hemorrhage “just over a month ago” and attributed it to singing through a sinus infection he was unaware of. He added, “I assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing.” Simpson has been alternating vocal rest for several weeks, which has led to the cancellation of various TV and radio performances.
The condition has hindered Simpson’s promotion of his new single, “Baby Blue,” which was released in March. He remarked, “This has also affected my ability to complete the album and polish up the next singles.” In an effort to avoid surgery—which would require a lengthy recovery—he has been prescribed an additional two weeks of vocal silence. Despite this challenge, he continues to write by collaborating with others as a lyricist and creating melodies on his guitar, stating, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Simpson plans to share his recovery journey with fans, many of whom have expressed their support in response to his post. The setback comes as he seeks to follow up on his self-titled fourth studio album, released in 2022 after a four-year stint in competitive swimming. Prior to his retirement from the sport, he qualified for both the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2024 Australian Olympic Trials.
In March, BMG announced its partnership with Range Music to support Simpson’s future releases. He expressed excitement about returning to music after his swimming career, stating, “Post-swimming career, I’d been back experimenting in the studio for almost a year. One day I went in really open-minded sensing something new and fresh wanted to come through … Coming back to music I decided I only wanted to do it if I could go in and have the best time ever every day.”
