Katy Perry Shares a Funny Response to Ex Josh Groban’s Engagement News
Trending on Billboard
Katy Perry’s song “The One That Got Away” is experiencing renewed popularity this year, fueled by its trending status on TikTok. This resurgence coincides with the recent engagement of Josh Groban, the subject of the track.
In a playful TikTok posted on May 11, Perry comically responds to Groban’s engagement by theatrically shedding fake tears, with a headline about the opera singer’s news visible in the background. She humorously pours herself a giant drink, showcasing a despondent look as it spills onto her bathrobe.
Accompanying the video, Perry wrote, “congrats,” punctuated with a champagne glass emoji.
Groban announced his engagement to theater actress Natalie McQueen in April, exclaiming on Instagram, “MY BEST FRIEND SAID YES!!!”
Perry’s light-hearted reaction comes amid her own romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whom she began dating last year. She has shared several photos on Instagram showcasing their relationship.
Despite her current relationship, Groban remains a memorable figure in Perry’s past. She confirmed in a 2017 livestream with James Corden that “The One That Got Away” was inspired by their brief romance in 2009.
In response to Perry’s remarks, Groban commented on *Watch What Happens Live* in 2018, “That was a double take and a spit of my coffee. It’s very sweet of her to say that.”
Perry’s TikTok is one of several promotional efforts for “The One That Got Away,” which has seen a revival. In April, she released an extended director’s cut of the song’s music video and dropped an EP titled *Thinking of the One That Got Away*, featuring another popular track, “Thinking of You.”
