Published on Friday, January 23, the poll featured a variety of releases and saw music fans favoring the Japanese vocal group’s new work as their favorite recent release.
Released amidst new music from former One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles, alongside artists like Arctic Monkeys and Young Thug, The Core managed to secure over 50% of the votes. Tomlinson’s album and Styles’ single were notable contenders in the poll, receiving 46% and 2% of the votes, respectively.
The album, described by XG’s team as “a defining artistic statement,” also features the new single “Hypnotize,” which premiered alongside a music video on Friday. The group—comprised of Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Juria, Cocona, Maya, and Harvey—has built excitement around the release.
In a fall interview, executive producer JAKOPS (SIMON) expressed the ambition behind The Core, stating the goal was to “create the greatest record in the world.” The group is set to embark on a tour supporting their album, beginning in early February in Yokohama, Japan.
The final results of the poll reflect the musical landscape of the week, with Tomlinson and Styles following closely behind XG’s striking lead.
