Lakers Overcome Grizzlies for 120-114 Victory
In a thrilling matchup on Sunday night, Luka Dončić led the Los Angeles Lakers with 36 points, while LeBron James contributed 26 points and 10 assists as the team rallied to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 120-114.
The Lakers showcased a strong performance, with Jake LaRavia also scoring 26 points against his former team and Deandre Ayton adding 15 points. This victory marks the Lakers’ second home win over the Grizzlies in just three days, coming after a challenging stretch where they lost four of their previous five games.
For Memphis, Jaylen Wells was a standout performer with 23 points. Rookie Cedric Coward added 16 points and nine rebounds but did not return for the second half due to an ankle injury. Jaren Jackson Jr. also contributed with 14 points, and Jock Landale secured 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Grizzlies faced their fourth straight loss, compounded by the absence of guard Ja Morant, who has missed 15 of the last 21 games due to a calf injury.
The game took a turn in the third quarter when the Lakers were down by 11 points with just under three minutes remaining. They closed the period with an 8-2 run, narrowing the deficit to 87-83. LaRavia’s driving layup tied the game at 92 with 7:14 left, and he later gave the Lakers their first lead since the first quarter at 94-92.
As the game progressed, the lead exchanged hands multiple times until Dončić’s pull-up jumper at 5:12 remaining put the Lakers ahead for good at 100-99. His back-to-back three-pointers extended the lead to 112-103 with just 2:08 on the clock.
The Lakers played without Rui Hachimura and Austin Reaves, who missed their third and fourth consecutive games, respectively, both due to calf injuries.
Looking ahead, the Grizzlies will host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, while the Lakers are set to face the New Orleans Pelicans the same day.
