Lizzo is back in the spotlight nearly nine years after her breakout hit “Truth Hurts,” with an exciting announcement of her upcoming album centered on empowerment and self-love.
On April 27, coinciding with her 38th birthday, Lizzo announced via Instagram that her new album will be titled Bitch, scheduled for release on June 5. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!” she exclaimed, showcasing the album’s playful artwork. “Wanna get me a gift? Pre-order my album baby!!!!”
The album cover features Lizzo’s right hand cheekily flipping the bird, with a miniature version of the Grammy-winning artist positioned at the center. The title track, “Bitch,” is set to drop on May 1.
This forthcoming album is Lizzo’s first since 2022’s Special and her first collection of songs since the 2025 mixtape My Face Hurts From Smiling. In a statement about the project, she noted, “Reclaiming the word ‘b—h’ is power. It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love.”
Lizzo further emphasized the positive connotations of the term, referencing influential female artists like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott: “It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms, and because I am 100% that b—h!”
Fans have already had a taste of the album with the lead single “Don’t Make Me Love U,” released on March 20. The album’s Spotify preview page lists a total of 12 tracks, including “A Toast,” “Happy 2 Be,” “She Stole My Man,” “Whose Hair Is This,” “Little Black Cat,” “Sexy Ladies,” “That Grrrl,” “Too Nice,” “Like a Crime,” and “Goodmorning!”
Initially, Lizzo had intended to follow up Special with an album titled Love in Real Life. However, after releasing the singles “Still Bad” and “Love in Real Life” last year, she decided to shelve that project. “It just wasn’t what I was feeling right now,” she explained to Vulture in September. “I was like, ‘I need to do s–t differently, and I don’t know what it is, but I’m going to just start following my instincts.’”
The anticipation for Lizzo’s new album continues to grow as fans eagerly await more details and new music.
