LAFD: Residents Escape Fire by Climbing Out Windows in Canoga Park
Two Injured, Six Displaced in Canoga Park Apartment Fire
LOS ANGELES – A fire in a two-story apartment building in Canoga Park early Tuesday morning resulted in two injuries and the displacement of six residents.
Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the blaze at 20946 W. Bryant Street just after 2:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found flames engulfing the first floor of the garden-style complex. A total of 83 firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control in 28 minutes.
Paramedics assessed eight individuals at the scene, transporting two to a local hospital for treatment. The conditions of those hospitalized remain unknown. The remaining six residents were displaced as a result of the fire, prompting the involvement of the Red Cross to assist with temporary housing and other immediate needs.
LAFD’s Arson Section is conducting an investigation into the causes of the fire, which is being treated as a potential arson case. Officials have also invited the Department of Building and Safety and the Department of Water and Power to evaluate the structural integrity of the building.
As investigators continue their work, the fate of the displaced residents remains uncertain amidst their ongoing search for long-term housing solutions.
