McGlynn Leads Houston Dynamo to Dominant 4-1 Victory Over LAFC
Houston Dynamo secured an impressive 4-1 win against LAFC on Sunday night at BMO Stadium, highlighted by a standout performance from Jack McGlynn, who scored a goal in each half.
In the 25th minute, McGlynn capitalized on an assist from Lawrence Ennali to net a long-range goal, giving Houston an early 1-0 lead. This marked McGlynn’s first goal of the season, following a career-high six goals last year.
Guilherme Santos extended the lead with a free kick conversion in the 34th minute, bringing his tally to six goals in just 11 matches. McGlynn nearly added another goal shortly before halftime when a shot from the same spot struck the far post. However, Nathan Ordaz responded for LAFC three minutes later, bringing the score to 2-1 at the break. McGlynn received a yellow card in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Stephen Eustáquio assisted Ordaz on his second goal, marking his third assist in seven appearances. Jacob Shaffelburg also contributed with an assist, achieving his second of the season and his 15th since joining the league.
In the second half, Mateusz Bogusz scored in the 51st minute to widen the gap to 3-1. Bogusz, who netted 18 goals in 60 matches with LAFC from 2023 to 2024, utilized his left foot for the goal. Shortly thereafter, in the 55th minute, McGlynn struck again, finishing with assists from Ennali and Santos, who now has five assists this season.
Houston’s goalkeeper, Jonathan Bond, made five saves, contributing to the team’s record of 6-5-0 while improving their away performance to 2-3-1. In contrast, LAFC, now 6-3-3 after this match, saw Hugo Lloris make two saves but drop to a home record of 4-2-1. Lloris had previously recorded eight shutouts in his first ten starts, leading the league in clean sheets.
The Dynamo’s recent form has seen them go 5-2-1 over their last eight matchups, successfully keeping LAFC scoreless in five of those contests. Earlier this season, LAFC had defeated the Dynamo 2-0 in Houston.
During the match, LAFC’s Sergi Palencia exited in the 42nd minute due to an apparent injury. Looking ahead, LAFC will visit St. Louis City on Wednesday.
