During an appearance at Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards in Palm Springs, California, Kristen Stewart expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of directing a remake of the Twilight saga. Stewart, now 35, discussed her interest in the project in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on January 4.
“I would love — look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Stewart remarked when prompted about the prospect of a remake.
Reflecting on the original films, she described them as being uniquely “themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly” during a time when the actors were still finding their footing in Hollywood. She continued, “Imagine if we had a huge budget and a bunch of love and support. I don’t know — I would love to readapt. Yeah, sure, I’ll do the remake. I’m doing it! I’m committed!”

Stewart achieved international fame through her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight series, which spanned five films released from 2008 to 2012. Alongside a talented ensemble including Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, she brought to life the characters from Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novels.
Notably, three different directors helmed the five films: Catherine Hardwicke directed the original, while Chris Weitz and David Slade took on New Moon and Eclipse, respectively. Bill Condon directed the two-part finale, Breaking Dawn.

In a December interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart reflected on her experiences during the filming of the franchise. She acknowledged the challenge of balancing numerous creative voices while still maintaining a cohesive vision, stating, “Being able to withstand and organize that many opinions, and still make something that feels like yours, is near impossible to do.”
Stewart’s latest project, The Chronology of Water, represents her directorial debut. She shared, “I’ve been working on other people’s films for my whole life, since I was nine years old and I feel like everything’s been building to this moment to find a little space for myself. It’s just what I’ve wanted to do my whole life.”
The Chronology of Water is currently in theaters.
