Kino Lorber to Release Diane Kruger’s Film ‘Amrum’ in Theaters This April
Kino Lorber has announced the theatrical release of Amrum, a World War II coming-of-age film directed by Fatih Akin, set for April 17 at the Quad Cinema in New York City.
Starring Diane Kruger, Laura Tonke, Jasper Billerbeck, and Lisa Hagmeister, the film will expand to additional markets, including LA’s Laemmle Royal, in the following week.
Akin co-wrote the screenplay with Hark Bohm. The film is set during the final days of World War II on the German island of Amrum. It tells the story of 12-year-old Nanning, who divides his time between farm work during the day and fishing at night. Despite the struggles of wartime life, he views his surroundings as idyllic. When farmer Tessa (played by Kruger) tells Nanning that the war is nearing its end, he naively hopes that his Nazi officer father will return home soon. However, as news of Germany’s impending defeat reaches his family, Nanning’s mother falls into despair, prompting him to seek support from his community and realize that the true threat lies much closer than he had anticipated.
In related news, Kino Lorber has recently released the Oscar-nominated documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin.
